Pick Up Lines 101

Source
**Disclaimer...I am about to get on my soapbox here! :) Just be warned!

Confession--yes, I am still single. Yes, I would like to fall in love eventually...at the right time.  Not in a bar.  Not with someone who spits out the lamest of lame lines.  I mean seriously where do some guys shop for the words that come out of their mouths?

So there I was on Friday night, out and about with my friends minding our own business having a decent time.  We are listening to a band, playing shuffleboard, and just catching up since we have been off of work for a week.

Enter male specimen exhibit A (MSEA).

He comes up to me, asks my name, shakes my hand...normal exchange.  I didn't know why he approached me but I was polite.  Now remember, I cannot hide my true feelings.  You can see on my face how I feel about something.  Then the conversation continues...

MSEA: Did you go to high school around here, I do not recognize you?
J: Yes, I went to ____ high school. (while thinking, I graduated from HS over 10 years ago...why would you recognize me?)
MSEA: Oh.  I went to _____ high school.
J: Ok, cool.
MSEA: What is your last name? Maybe I know your family.
J: No that is ok. You probably don't.
MSEA: Oh, well how old are you?
J: Excuse me?
MSEA: I mean, I graduated in 1994. You look older than me. So when did you graduate?
J: I look old? What? Excuse me? (This is where the annoyance enters my attitude.)
MSEA: Oh, it is not polite to ask a lady her age. I am sorry. I just meant I graduated in 94 and you must be older than me which is why I do not know you.
J: You know, it is impolite to ask. Especially the way you just did.  However, I am NOT older than you. I graduated FIVE years AFTER you. I actually wasn't in HS when you were. I was in middle school. (Now I am just offended.)
MSEA: Oh, ok sorry.... (awkward silence...and walks away).

I mean really? It is almost 2013 and this guy thought that that was the way into my heart. PUHLEASE! Is there hope out there? I sincerely hope so. Because I tell ya...I was definitely thinking the opposite after that encounter.  But I digress...

Money Christmas Tree: DIY

I could not ring in the new year without sharing one last crafty craft.  My cousin only wanted to money for Christmas and I originally thought...HOW BORING!  And I just would not settle with writing a check and placing it in a card. Oh no, I would not.  So I turned to the bible, I mean Pinterest and found some amusing ways to give cash money!

Source

I first found the idea of placing the cash inside the little wrappers of a chocolate tray like this:
Source
And I thought...man I would have to eat all of that chocolate.  You may want to sit down for this....did you find a seat? Ok.  I do not like to just sit and eat chocolate.  I am a salt girl for sure.  I do not crave sweets at all, like evah! I know I am weird. SO I crossed that idea off my book and continued to look on.

I found ways to fold it, hide it, create clothing with it, and even attach dollar bills together to make garland.  I was starting to give up hope.  Ready to go to Walmart and buy the card. When the Pinterest angels above felt my frustration and they sent me this wonderful Money Christmas Tree from Then She Made.

The best part of the this craft is that the supplies are most likely already sitting in different areas of your house. Bonus! Although you know I love a good Hobby Lobby run!

You of course need the cash.  You want five (or more) layers for your tree's "branches." I was giving $40 dollars couldn't come up with five layers....so I gave $41 dollars, lol.  You need wire.  I originally was going to use the gold wire pictured, it was for jewelry making.  However, it turned out to be a pain in the rear, so I turned to some left over photo frame hanging wire (I do not know the technical word for that).  You need a stick like a kabob stick and something to be the base of your tree.  I went to the dollar store and bought a horrendous looking decoration that had a small styrofoam base and tore everything that was on top of it out.  Ok...you also need a tree topper.  I did not picture it here, but I used a 1.75 inch circle cut out on red glitter paper instead of a star. I will not lie, it was easier.
Next you need to fold your money.  Each bill needs to be folded like an accordion.  Once they are all folded you should see a W somewhere in the middle of the bill.  This is the point where you want to avoid the temptation of grabbing the bills and running.  I never carry cash so seeing it out there like this was very tough, lol.
This is the point where I became a bag DIY blogger.  I forgot to take pictures of my assembly. Ooops. But it was really easy, truthfully. You take one bill and place it near the base of the tree.  Take the wire and form an X around both sides securing it in place.  Once the bill is in place, then twist the wires above it like you are tying the twisty tie on a loaf of bread.  Repeat with each layer.  The only new step is to fold the bill with each layer so it will be shorter.  I made my folds in the middle where the X would wrap it and keep it in place too.  If you look closely you can see the X wraps and the fold marks.  I then taped my red sparkly circle to the top of the tree and added a little red and green ribbon to the top and bottom.  I really liked the finished product and only took 10 minutes from start to finish.  I wrapped it so nicely in a shirt box from American Eagle to make him think I did not listen to his cash only request ;-) and wrapped it up with some pretty pretty paper.  He was surprised and seemed to like the creativity in my gift! SO happy spending Ethan...if you can figure out how to remove the bills!

Christmas 2012 Round Up!

**Disclaimer...I am spoiled by my momma and I know it....just beware of that as you read!

I hope you all had a great holiday...I am still on vacation and will continue to lay around absorbing as much Hulu+ as I possibly can until January 2nd!

My family gathered the weekend before Christmas for our cousin gift exchange.  There was a lot of pizza, movies (Pitch Perfect, WHOOO), air hockey (my arm still hurts), and lovin' on my favorite lil man Carson! He is a Christmas baby so he is definitely lovin' the month of December.

My mom and I ran around like crazy on Christmas Eve trying to finish stocking stuffers, get Christmas dinner food, and the sort.  We had a fun but busy day.
Christmas Eve #OOTD
Once it got dark, I dressed Henry up in his Christmas Eve gear and then we went to look at Christmas lights.  There is one house in my hometown where this lil old man goes so overboard and it is SO FUN.  He even came to the car and talked to Henry. We were lovin' it.  When we got back home it was time for a holiday movie and this year we watched The Family Stone. I had forgotten how sweet and funny it was...and of course I cried.

Once it was bedtime, I set up my mom's Christmas present. She has been talking about having a fireplace in the living room for evaaaaah so I decided this year I would splurge and get her the fireplace. My friend found one on-line at Lowe's that I decided was perfect so I wanted it set up and running when we woke up Christmas morning. It looks good, huh?

Christmas morning was present time and of course holiday movie marathon...Home Alone, The Holiday, and The Family Man. We were pretty lazy...just sat by the lights of the tree and enjoyed the celebration.

Henry of course is as spoiled as he is on an every day basis. He was cute with the gifts...he picked at them and when the wrapping paper was gone...his attention and excitement was too.  HAHA...he is a typical kid huh? Likes the hoopla but then he turns his head! He did like the bully stick a lot...to the point that it was gone in like 30 minutes! That is record breaking stuff for him!

One tradition that we do is our stocking exchange.  We go to a store (this year was Walmart) and we split up.  You have to spend $50 and fill the other person's stocking with surprises.  My stocking was jam packed this year...with all kinds of nail and makeup supplies.  I am super excited about the pedicure thingy in the middle.  I need to take care of my feet this winter as I tend to neglect them during the cold months.

I mentioned above that I am a tad spoiled when it comes to my mom...and you are about to see why.  I racked in a lot this year.  Below you see my jewelry gifts this year.  My mom loved shopping at Madewell and got me the sparkly bracelet and mini bow pendant necklace.  She also found another one of the BCBG words bracelet that is so fun.  TRUE heart...how cute! :)  My brother got me the elephant scarf from Stella&Dot that I had been eyeing for a long time...with the help from my college roomie, thanks Kristen for helping Santa!

Sephora must have loved seeing my mom coming! Just looky here...I have become quite the health and beauty nut with all the discoveries through blogging and Pinterest!  I finally have the Urban Decay Nake 2 palette! I also got the gelshine Sephora by O.P.I nail kit, Daisy by Marc Jacobs, more Stila lip glosses and sparkly polish.

Needless to say, my Christmas was nice. Very, very nice. :) I hope your's was too!  I have also enjoyed the snowy weather we have had in Ohio.  Henry loves being outside so I took him out in it yesterday to play...so I leave you today with his cuteness.  Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend everyone!

PS--my Blogaversary is coming up...ONE YEAR...whoooooooooo!!!!

December Cara Box...add some sparkle!

After reading several posts dedicated to this mysterious "cara" box...I decided that I had to find out exactly what it was.  After visiting a few blogs, digging through their archives, and finding new bloggers, I finally arrived at Kaitlyn's blog "Wifessionals."

Kaitlyn (like myself) loves getting packages through snail mail and loved receiving Birchbox.  So she came up with the bloggy world's version of BB. I was hooked once I read about her motivation and of course seeing past pictures of bloggers swapping with each other based on a theme.  You see cara (pronounced car-rah) is a noun meaning beloved friend.  So we bloggers should make new friends and share encouragement with one another. And that is exactly what I did...

This time around I was not just swapping with one blogger...it was a chain swap.  In hind sight, I wish I would have have swapped with just one girl, because I think I could have gotten to know that one person a lot better in the time frame.  It did get a little hectic, 2 weeks before Christmas communicating with 3 new friends (2 for cara box and 1 for Santa Paws).  But I digress...

So who sent some sparkle to me? A lovely, beautiful stay at home mother of two boys named Chrystal. Her blog is private or I would show her off! Not only is she busy raising her cute kidlets (I saw some Halloween pictures that were presh!) she also runs a small daycare! Such a giving lady! We e-mailed back and forth several times getting to know each other and I must say she used that information in created a GREAT box for me! Let's see it shall we!?!?!

Top left: an adorable glittery holiday decoration.  This was a perfect addition to my glitter mantle.
Top right: pine cone garland, bell door decor, Charleston Chew (my fav!), glitter Santa bucket, doggie ornament, and Sally Hansen glitter polish
Bottom left: a close up of the glitter polish, it is like a fuchsia color called Wedding Crasher
Bottom right: red sparkling Santa hat? YES PLEASE! I wore this all weekend before Christmas.

And the best part of the gift? She didn't forget about Henry Liu.  I say it was the best part because it was the first thing used and the first thing GONE! LOL

Thanks for thinking of my little big furry friend.

Didn't Chrystal do so well? I absolutely loved her generous gift and getting to know her.  I hope to continue to talk to her through the bloggy world and of course our cute Instagram pics!

I sent a Cara Box to another blogger named Jess from Black and White With a Little Bit of Pink and am excited to hear and see what she thought of her sparkling addition!

Hope everyone had a fantastic holiday!

What's in My Bag!

I do not usually post on Sunday, however, I am on Christmas vacation from work...so everyday is my weekend now! :) Today I am linking up with Ricci from A Beautiful Mess for "What's in My Bag!"

I am currently carrying this Kate Spade Vanston Jackson tote.  I scored this beauty on Cyber Sunday/Monday weekend this year for over 50% off! It was such a score, I could not pass it up.  It has several sections and compartments to hide your "stuff" in.

It is pretty big for an every day bag and can get a little heavy depending on what you shove in there. Speaking of? Shall we take a peak...

This may look like a lot...but I was actually surprised when I dumped my bag to only find this much, LOL.  Let's take a closer look.
On the far right is my Vera Bradley tech case, where I keep my camera.  I have a pink Sony Cybershot. Miscellaneous items shown are iPhone earbuds, spare change, checkbook, hand wipes, Thirty-One compact mirror, and my Allisa Jacobs custom card case.

Here you see gum, chocolate mints, EOS lip balm, anti-bacterial wash, ear warmers from Three Bird Nest, and my trusty Ray Ban aviators.

Lastly, you find a pile of receipts (I am bad about keeping too many of these), stamps, coupons for Old Navy, my medium zipper pouch from Gussy Sews, my tech wallet from Stella & Dot, and my iPhone 5!
My Gussy Sews pouch is home to all lip care that I carry around.  And as you can see...I carry around WAY too much.  Seriously what girl needs THREE Stila glosses, THREE glitter glosses (Essence, VS, Bath & Body Works), TWO plain lip balms (Carmex and Mary Kay), and THREE tinted lip balms(Sugar Rose, Stainiac, and Just Pure Minerals)? I guess I do!

I wanted to show all sides of my Allisa Jacobs custom card case as I got to completely design this little thing.  I keep all of my little cards in here where I earn points if I shop like Panera, Subway, Ulta, Sephora, etc.  It is small enough that I can slip in into my tech wallet and have everything that I need with me without taking my entire purse.  :) Check her out!

That is what is in my bag! Hope you enjoyed it :)
