Friday's Letters: Weekend Anticipation!

Dear Rent the Runway,
I do not need to say much more that...thank you. Your site and company thrill me.  I am so happy that I get to just rent a dress and not have to stare at it  for the next year...kicking myself for never wearing it again! :)

This is the dress I rented. Cute right?

Dear work,
At any point that you would like to slow down and give me a break I would appreciate it.  I just feel so overwhelmed and need a breather. Just so you know!

Dear Etsy,
You get me every time. I am slightly completely ashamed to admit that I ordered off of you two times this week alone. Woah buddy! I better get my spending spree under check. However, when my new oatmeal/cream cowl arrives...I may fall in love.

Dear Andrea and Mark,
I hope everything this weekend goes exactly how you planned for your wedding. I am thrilled to be invited and included in all of the events.  An Oktoberfest weclome party! A grand wedding and celebration! Cleveland Browns shuttle! Yes, please! :) May your marriage be as awesome as you both are!

Dear TV premier week,
Well I will certainly say that you toyed with me until Thursday night. And then... you.did.not.mess.around.  My eyes still hurt from crying.  I think I will dedicate an entire post to my shows and what I thought of their return or debut! Perhaps as a Sunday round up!

Well I have to jet. I need to hit the highway as fun and celebration awaits me in Cleveland!

That's...just what Jess is up to :)

Por que? Beer in a soup?

Not to long ago, I pinned a recipe for a Beer Cheese Soup.  I have kept saying I was going to try it.  However, I never followed through. Well tonight was the night.  I came right home from work and looked up the recipe...

BOY was it complicated.  I am not a pro expert skilled talent in the kitchen.  More of a student in Cooking 101.  So I decided to google more recipes because I was in the mood to try this soup.

I found one that did not involved ingredients that I didn't know about or cooking techniques that are out of my I headed to the store!,1748,153186-225202,00.html
I forgot to use my real camera again. So I apologize for the awful photos!

First steps are to melt the butter and then mix in the onions!

Next, you add in the dry mustard and flour...

Stir for 2-3 minutes kinda looks like wet corn bread (yum!) lol...

Add in the chicken broth and beer.  I added a bottle of beer.  I think I should have only used half of the bottle. But you live and you learn.  I also used a light beer.  I think I should have used one with more flavor. But again, you live and you learn.

After about 20 minutes of simmering and boiling the thickness just wasn't showing up.  So I referred to Google!  I read how to thicken a runny soup.

So I tried made it a little better but not totally.

Howev---and I mean howev!

This soup tasted DELICIOUS! So good. I was really, really pleased with how zesty, cheesy and just plain yummy it was.  I have a feeling after it sits for a bit it may thicken too!

I definitely think next time I will make it with a more hearty beer. But for today, dinner was delish!

If you try it or have a yummy recipe let me know! :)

That's...Just what Jess is up to! :)

It is always sunny on the other side?

pleated poppy

Before I can get to my outfit of choice...I must vent. V.E.N.T.

Today I am just a sack full of negative feelings! Do you ever feel this way?

I am pessimistic by nature. I know, I know it is not a good thing...yet it is almost something I cannot control.  I try to look at the positive side of every thing that happens.  I try to send out positive vibes.  BUT sometimes there comes a day where a girl is going to crack.

Today is that day.

I just feel defeated. Completely beat down. Down. Very low.  Ugh. I hate that I feel this way. I need something to happen to make me smile and say "Wow! I can start being positive again!"  I hope that something is already in the car, speeding down the highway at a nice 80mph.  I am waiting positive action. Waiting for you.

On a better note. I took my brother to an appointment at my alma mater yesterday. Ohio University...placed in the nostalgic, beautiful Athens, Ohio.  I tell you what OU--you still have my heart. 100% completely.

We ate lunch at my favorite bagel shop--Bagel Street Deli.

Bagel Street is definitely what you would call a "hole in the wall" with its narrow brick walls which are covered in chalk from the patrons of the past (since 1993) and small aluminum foil creations.  They seriously make the best bagel out there. Check out their site here!

When it comes to food, I am what you call a plain Jane.  And so I have only ever tried one item off the menu (in 10 years!)...Tom's Turkey.  Just look up there! Aren't you hungry? So I am thankful for my beautiful fall day and my visit to Bagel Street!

I also wore a Pinterest inspired outfit yesterday.  See below for my inspiration.

I thought this was a super cute and comfy fall look...and now that the Ohio temps have finally dropped it was time for me to break out my boots (collective...YAY!)!

Here is what I was able to come up with using my closet!
Scarf: Old Navy, Shirt: Forever 21, Tank: Old Navy, Leggings: Target, Boots: Macy's via Steve Madden Watch: Fossil

I think I did a fairly good job.  I was not 100% happy with my choice of scarf but it is the best I had. I learned I need more scarves!! So I went directly to Etsy and ordered a new cream/oatmeal cowl...I will blog about it once it arrives! I also need to start to take my #ootd photos with my camera instead!  I will get on that next time.

My HP shirts came today. Yay! :) Now I just need to find an event to bring out my inner nerd to "Stay Calm and Carry a Wand!"

Dear Fellow, More Experienced Bloggers...

I really want a new look for my blog design!

I have played around for hours trying to get the hang out it.  But nothing I figure out is ever "cute enough!"  Where do I go to find some awesome bloggy design help?

Thanks again of time!

Weekend Update: time to celebrate!

Pictures say a 1,000 words right? So let's celebrate my weekend in peeeectures :)

1.  In my last post, I mentioned Henry's newest fall attire...his lightning bolt sweater.  I like to think he is channeling his inner Harry Potter!  He wore it all Friday night.

2 and 3.  I completed my weekly mani!  I had a wedding to go to on Saturday so I chose a color that would go with my dress.  It is Nicole by OPI's Shoot for the Maroon.  I tried to take the pictures in the sun because it is SO PRETTY when the sun shines on it.  It sparkles with hints of orange and pink! I love it.  But in the regular light, it just looks maroon.  So I just have to put myself in the light constantly!

4.  The wedding on Saturday was BEAUTIFUL!  Seriously Lori looked amazing and the location was so nice too!  It was hands down the best ceremony I have been to.  I actually enjoyed hearing what the officiant had to say. It was unique and just nice. :)  The picture is with Kristen, my college roomie of 3 years! It was SO good to see college friends, especially the girls!

5. My cousins live near where the wedding was so yesterday I stopped for some QT with this family of 3! Carson (2) put on his Halloween costume for me and it was just too cute to not take a picture!  Watch out superheroes! Carson-man is on the loose!

6.  Legos? Did you know that they are still fun to play with? I probably spent an hour building this amazing castle that took Carson 2 seconds to demolish!  I used all of the giant legos in my creation and had a good time too!

7.  A little Target anyone? I stopped on the drive home (2.5 hours) to get a little shopping fix.  I picked up Essie's Go Overboard.  I am slightly, lamely excited to put this pretty color on my nails that I just may change my color before the week is over!

8.  I also picked up Mindy Kaling's new book!  It is called "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?"  I have not started but she is a funny gal on television so how can't she be funny in writing?  I am definitely starting to watch her new show "The Mindy Project" this week!

9. My weekend ended quickly.  I got home last night, took a shower, and in bed I went.  But not before I sent Kristen a text informing her on how I felt after a long, long night of dancing in heels!

That's... Just What Jess is Up to :)

Friday's Letters

I cannot say this enough. And for that reason I must share with how I feel about this week before I share my letters.

Seriously do you feel this way ever? This week was just the week that I could not tackle.  I stayed at work for COPIUS amounts of hours each day. No matter what I got accomplished I just never felt "together" this week.  So here's to it FINALLY being over. Let the weekend begin.

Dear Lori and Andy,
I hope you have a wonderful wedding tomorrow.  You are an adorable couple and I am thankful that you have included me in your special celebration.  Here's to a great OU reunion and even better marriage!

Dear Mel and Rachael,
Thank you for making me feel special this week.  It has been a tough one and your flowers were absolutely beautiful.

Dear Henry Liu,
Thank you for our date night last night.  A trip to the vet for a shot and a shopping spree to Petsmart--just what we needed.  Can't wait to see you in your new sweater.

Dear Emma Stine,
This one piece has my full attention.  I want want want! I just don't want the earrings.  Soooo why can't I just order the necklace?
Dear ShirtNinja,
I cannot wait for my shirts to arrive.  It may be a major NERD ALERT but I cannot wait!! HP for life!

Dear weekend,
I am ready for you. Ready for fun. Read for relaxation. Bring it on.

That's just what Jess is up to! :)

Weekend Update

I had a really solid weekend.  I cannot complain one bit.  Other than that pesky thing called Monday. I wish Monday was part of the weekend.

Friday night was very laid back for me.  We had pizza (from my favorite place) and got caught up on raunchy reality tv.  I am too embarrassed to say what show I spent time with on Friday night. It is on Showtime and takes place in Vegas. That is all I can reveal.

Saturday was spent inside the Horseshoe cheering on the BUCKEYES to win #3. I will tell you we were sitting in the very highest row but it was still a successful experience. My pictures turned out great, I had a great time, and loved every minute of it.  The game was pretty painful stressful during the second half, but at least we pulled out a victory!

My mom and I at the game! She is so cute! :)
The pride of OSU: the band!

Script OHIO--sorry it's upside down, we were on the opposite side of the stadium!

Sunday...I really have a love hate relationship with you.  I really wanted to have a funday and go meet friends for the Browns game BUT I was SO tired I couldn't stand it.  So I was lazy all day, minus making some yummy yummy stuffed pepper soup and the 3 hours of school work I had to do because my interim grades were due today!  I can't believe we are half way through the first grading period already! Phew!

Tell me it doesn't make you hungry??!!??!!
I went super spicy with the soup this time. I am pleased, but still think I need to edit it up!  If you are interested this is the recipe I start with, but the proportions of the ingredients vary with my mood! :)

Sunday night was capped off with some Big Brother (only 1 episode left!) and KUWTK (Kourtney gave birth...).  BB was ok, I do not think any of the final 3 should win.  And KUWTK, well I am not sure I need to see birthing of babies on my tv! Enough said.

Hope all of your weekends were great!

Thats just what Jess is up to! :)

Friday's Letters

Dear iPhone 5,
You have my attention! The more and more my 4 is delayed or will not charge completely...makes me MORE excited.  I love the bigger screen and lighter? thinner? YES! I just have to make it to November before I can indulge!

Dear Linda,
Thank you for selling your tickets for the OSU game to my mom! Now I get to go to the Horseshoe and watch my boys in action!

Dear OSU Buckeye Football,
Keep it up! 2-0 isn't bad for a team that caught such a bad media rap! And now that I get to be in the better be on it! OH--IO!

Dear Glogster EDU,
Why did you have to change your entire platform?? I have spent 3 weeks getting my students used to the original platform and then BOOM you change on us!  Now we start all over! I hope your changes are bigger and better!

Dear Momma Stesh,
You are a rockstar. I hope you know how important you are and you are so STRONG! Keep your head up as you are loved!

Dear Henry Liu,
I love ya bud but you have got to cut out the constant in and out business! You are home all go outside at night and play! :)

Dear CBS Big Brother,
One more week.  Just one more week. I am very annoyed with yesterday's outcome.  I cannot believe that a girl who has lived in the BB house for over 70 days can be so NAIVE and so blind.  Poor Shane, I was rooting for you. Too bad Danielle is just a puppet on Dan's string.  So at this point, I guess...Go Ian!

Dear Glee,
I cannot wait to watch the premier. I couldn't watch last night due to my tired nature and episode of Big Brother. Between Lima, NYC, LA, and anywhere in between I cannot wait to hear my New Directions sing!

Hope everyone has a great great great weekend!! :)

Ribbon Wreath 101

I am a HUGE college football fan! :) It cannot be denied and when I saw a wreath on Pinterest like the one I picture below, I could not wait to make it! So of course I had to plan my shopping trip to THE Hobby Lobby!

Not sure where to start I googled  "how to make a ribbon wreath" and came across Angie's blog at Big Bear's Wife.  So I went to the store with her suggested shopping list.

Shopping List:
  • 7 spools of ribbon (I bought the thick ribbon--2 inch)
  • styrofoam wreath (I bought 14 inch)
  • wooden letters (spell the team or word of your choice)
  • wooden accessories (I chose football)
  • acrylic paint (your choice)
  • straight pins ( A LOT!!!!)
  • spool of tule (I later learned this and did not use it on my first wreath making experience)
I chose black paint, letters to spell OSU,
and of course a cute little football accessory!
I chose seven spools of ribbon (show above).
My favorites were the sparkles and zebra print!
I wanted a large wreath so I went with the 14 inch one.
I also bought 750 straight pins and I used so many of them.
Before I started, I divided I wanted to watch a video where someone actually made the wreath.  So I chose this one! This video helped me see what I was going to do a lot better! The first step is to cut up your ribbon.  They recommended cutting it at a specific measurement but I really did my own thing.  I made some longer than others but think that the shorter ones are important to make different sized loops.

I recommend using one pattern at a time so you are sure to space out the different patterns that you buy!  Here is what my wreath looked like after about a half hour of work.  You simply take a cut piece of ribbon and make a circle.  Simply stick a straight pink in the center of the circle and stick it into the wreath wherever you desire!  You just repeat and repeat until the wreath is full and b-e-a-utiful!

After 30 minutes of work!
Really that was all there was to it! I love it! It is really my favorite craft I've completed so far!
All of the ribbon finished!
The letters are easy...just paint and attach using a hot glue gun!

Right before I hung it up!

Just in time for the game day appearance!

My mom loved it so much she immediately went to Hobby Lobby and purchased stuff to make a Cleveland Browns wreath too! But somehow I still had to do all of the work!
I covered her wreath with tule. It made it easier to cover the whole thing!

So pretty!

And in love! <3 font="font">
The Ohio State wreath took me about 2 hours to complete from start to finish and the Browns one was over 4 hours. It definitely changed the time frame when you buy thinner ribbon, which is why I suggest the thicker ones!

Hope you like it!

That's just what Jessi is up to! :)

Weekend Update

This weekend was a good one, yet definitely not long enough!!  If only we could get someone to change the work week from five days to four. Personally, I think it is a GREAT idea.

Friday night I decided would be dedicated to crafting.  On Wednesday when I got my hair done, I found some really cute wreaths for various football teams.  I wanted to make one for OSU as it is indeed football season and my umbrella summer time wreath is out of style. So I spent the night decorating a wreath (DIY post later this week) and watching some quality television show: Dance Moms, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and Beverly Hills Nannies!

Saturday I spent the day...crafting again. My mom loved the Buckeyes wreath so much, I had to trek back to Hobby Lobby and buy a plethora of orange and brown supplies to create a Cleveland Browns wreath.  Her wreath took me four and a half hours to complete. Phew! I was certainly happy that I was able to stick with it and get it done because it is pretty!

Next up? OSU football! Another W on the record!  Although I was in pain during the game. I am not one to complain but a woman commentator should have a voice that is worth listening to--and unfortunately I did not feel that way during the game.  I almost put the tv on mute, LOL!  I then indulged in a little romantic comedy..chick flick--What's Your Number? You should watch it if you haven't yet.  There were a few times where I burst out laughing!

Sunday was spent watching football again! I got to see great friends from OU and have some laughs! I need to do that more often!

Staying up late all weekend and have a little fun yesterday, made it hard to get up at 5:30 today when the alarm went off.  I will be honest--I stayed in bed until 6:00am! Oops!

Hop over to Teaching in Flip Flops for a cool pencil sharpener giveaway!

Hope you all had a great weekend too! Bachelor Pad Finale tonight! Whoop whoop!

Friday's Letters

Dear Hobby Lobby, Thank you for being such a cool store.  However, why did the spools of ribbon have to be regular price this week? I needed 7 spools for my craft! Come on now!

Dear Pinterest, Thank you for inspiring me when I am down.  I get online and realize, I can de-stress by picking out a craft that just has to be done ASAP!

Dear school, Boy do you have me tired! I can't believe it has been three weeks and I am still drowning under a to-do list that I cannot seem to get my hands on.  I hope I have a productive weekend of fun but also scratching off a few of those pesky tasks!

Dear Colin Stuart Multi Way Boots, Why are you so cute? I am dying over you.  I do not want to spend the $$ on you yet...I feel like I need you!  So which or brown!?!?

Dear Ohio State Buckeye Football, Game two tomorrow! Let's kick some UCF butt!

Happy Friday Everyone!
