The Fame Game

My summer vacation has finally begun!  What have been doing for the first two days you may want to know? I have been in the sun, reading a book, catching a tan, and splashing around in an inflatable pool! Yes, you read that right! I decided that it is too hot to just sit out there to read and I do not want to stay in doors...I am a summer girl!  So one trip to the local Walmart later I was equipped with an inflatable pool, a lounging lawn chair, and a pretty pink raft!

Just call my back very own beach.  I love it...even though I wish it looked like this...

So anyway, I decided to dive right into my summer reading list, which I may add still needs more books added to it!  My first pick was Lauren Conrad's The Fame Game.  Lauren wrote a trilogy based on Hollywood's reality TV world when it invades the lives of your average America girls...and how reality tv isn't all that REAL! Shocking I know.  However, I was still sucked into hours upon hours of episodes and series of Laguna Beach and The Hills.  So a couple of summers ago I picked up the books and found it fun to draw the connections between the fictional characters (Jane, Scarlett, Madison, and Gaby) to the real Hills girls (LC, Lo, Audrina, Kristen, and Heidi).  However, Lauren has said many times the book is not a direct reflection of her experience on the big screen.  The first books were called LA Candy, Sweet Little Lies, and Sugar and Spice.

So what I found those summers ago was that her books were very, very light reads (which I cannot lie, I enjoy during my summer days).  They did not require you do analyze the plot line and they were predictable.  However, I still just as in every book I read, I found myself rooting certain characters on and hating the life of others!  So when  I saw Lauren on Chelsea Lately a few weeks ago, I saw that she had decided to write more books that were like spin off of the first series.  These would however focus on Madison in the limelight instead of Jane!  I will be honest I would not exactly excited because I did not care for Madison at all, but I figured...hey it is summer, give it a go!

So I started the book at the pool and I finished it that way too!  Just like the first group of books, they were light reads, and again predictable.  This book did leave you hanging with all four of the subplots.  You do not know what is next for Madison, Gaby, Kate, or Carmen...and especially Luke! But I do not want to give all of that away!

I will tell you Kate was my fave!  And yes, I am being a bit bias.  Her character hails from Columbus, references to High Street...and even misses that mid-western boy from HS!  Something about her just made me think "I like this girl!"

If you like Hollywood, the limelight, and reading about what really happens on west coast...pick it up! Check out Lauren's website as she does live chats and book club meetings too! Thanks Lauren from a glimpse into the Hollywood lifestyle (according to Trevor Lord at least)! ;)
That's....just what jess is up to! :)

What have you been reading lately?

Every year as summer approaches, I make my list of books that I will indulge in while soaking up the sun or enjoying an evening on the deck.  I am a true young adult reader, perhaps that is why I teach middle school.  In the last two weeks, I have begun to get back in my habit of reading, finishing two books that have been on my list since last summer.  Now that the flare has been relit, I am ready for some book shopping.

I am very anxious for next fall as well.  Why you ask? The third novel in the "Matched" trilogy will grace us.  I finished "Crossed" (book 2) three days ago.  I have found myself right back where I was last June when I met Cassia, Ky, and Xander.  However, different from my reaction with the first book, I no longer know how I want the trilogy to end.  I guess I will have to wait for Ally to share her story "Reached" in the fall!

I hate when I give up on books too.  In the end of summer last year, I began a book titled "Where I Belong" by Gwendolyn Heasley.  I was into the book, but I wasn't grasping to the main character Corrine.  I have a hard time loving a book if the connection isn't there.  Unfortunately, school started back up and my free time disappeared quite quickly so I put the book back on my shelf.  Once I finished "Crossed" the other day, I decided to give the book another shot.  Well two days later and I am finished.  I LOVED it. :-)  Talk about your true high society snob meeting country side, hillbilly hick--what a story. Corrine ended up being one of the most dynamic characters I have read about in a long time.  I immediately Googled Heasley to see if she had plans of another book because in true fashion you really do not know how it ends.  Coming June 5th is her next book "A Long Way From You" and you can bet your bottom dollar I will getting it immediately.

So now I am left with...the big question.  What else should I read this summer?  I will most likely read Lauren Conrad's newest reality tv spin off novel...don't laugh but they are just as good as watching The Hills on tv.  I have been hearing a ton of gossip about "Fifty Shades of Grey" but the summary didn't really engage me.  SO anyhoo, what will you be ready this summer? Share with me!

Etsy Love! Have you Esty--ed today?

Man oh man oh man.  You know what I just realized? It is MAY already? Yes, May! I can hardly believe it.  And more importantly this realization made me come to terms with some bad news.  I officially have failed by New Year's Resolution.  I have not "crafted" for the whole month of April. I really thought this would be the resolution...where I wouldn't fail.  So oopsy daisy!  I am not going to stop though.  I just am choosing "skip last month" as if that is a life line button.

So today, I am sharing something interesting...and what seems to have come hand in hand with me blogging.  I started to read so many others' blogs.  And through those I discovered Pinterest, Etsy, and many many independent craft shops.  So today I give love to Etsy.

Starting in January (3 short months ago) I stumbled upon the exciting shopping world of Etsy.  Have you Etsy--ed? If you have not, I am sorry! Please go directly to, do not pass go, do not collect $200!  Because I promise you will want to spend $200! :)

I have several favorite shops that I check on constantly, like a hawk!  So I thought I would take some time to give these hard working independent shops some hard core Internet shout out time because I definitely have a case of the Etsys!

First of all, I will begin with the first shop that I bought from.  The shop is called Grace & Lace.  Check out Melissa's shop here! You can also like her page on Facebook!  She began selling boot socks and leg warmers in October of 2011.  These are not just your throw back 80's work out gear.  They are lacey, frilly, girly, embellished accessories for the fashionable woman like you! I have purchased one pair of boot socks, two leg warmers, and several pair of her spring sock must have--Lacey Peep Sock (for flats and pumps).   I even won a giveaway from the Funky Monkey--which was for one of her spring scarves!  I must say I am a big fan of Melissa and her awesome sewing craftiness!

Next up? Three Bird Nest! Check out Alicia's shop here!  You can also like her Facebook page too!  I stumbled upon her shop due to a blog that I read daily, The Small Things Blog.  Kate's button for her blog is on the side of my page.  Kate gave a tutorial on how to wear a headband made by Alicia. So of course, I traveled right on over to Etsy to check them out!  Her studio specializes in funky and eclectic handmade headbands, scares, accessories, socks, and more!  So far I have gotten a headband (which I love), 3 head wraps, and a spring scarf!  Alicia's products are definitely in fashion and I love that she shows you how to wear them!  What are you waiting for, go check her out!

Last but not least I must share The Lucky Elephant.  Check out Jutta's shop here. You can also like her Facebook page here!  I honestly do not have rhyme or reason for how I found Jutta and her shop.  I was just pursuing Etsy through the categories and pop I saw the most beautiful beaded leather wrap bracelet.  So many colors were just begging me to view the shop...and with a closer look I discovered the most adorable elephant adorning the clasp!
<---------see why it caught my attention?

I knew I just had to have one.  It took me a while to determine which should be mine, as I was sure there were so many that I needed.  But I finally made a decision...Spring Special...Turquoise and Brown Lucky Elephant Leather Wrap Bracelet - Mixed Beads with GOOD LUCK ELEPHANT...see below!
A few weeks later I found myself ordering this beauty too. It is perfect for so many outfit styles.  Not to mention a great summer accessory! :0) I have actually been thinking about ordering another one so I can wear two together.  We will see on that last thought later.  Be sure to like her Facebook page as Jutta offers special deals and coupon codes!  Nothing makes shopping better than a coupon! :)

So I apologize for dropping the ball on my crafting schedule.  But perhaps I will break for a bit while I finish up the school year and head into the summer season.  I can always keep you posted on fantastic shops.  I just ordered some ADORABLE organizational items from shops I learned about from The Small Things Blog.  Once I receive those I will definitely give you a post!

Take care and happy weekend all!

That's just what jessi is up to! :)
